Dr. Eduardo Barrera

Dr. Eduardo Barrera, 88, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 29, 2010 at LifeCare - South Hospital of South Texas in McAllen. He was born on May 29, 1921 in Rio Grande City to Bonifacio Barrera and Antonia Rodriguez.
Dr. Barrera is preceded in death by his parents and wife; Maria Ninfa Barrera.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Eduardo Ubil Barrera and David Barrera, daughter; Maria Elena Barrera, brother; Alberto Barrera, sisters; Angelica Brown and Sylvia Buentello, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Barrera lived in Edinburg most of his life. He is a veteran of World War II and a survivor of the attack on Hiroshima. He began teaching Spanish at Pan American in 1964 until his retirement in 1986. He graduated from UT-Texas where he received his PhD. in Educational Psychology. Dr. Barrera was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 05598. He loved reading, playing the violin, and fishing; Dr. Barrera also enjoyed cross word puzzles and working with his hands as a craftsman. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him.
The Barrera family will receive friends today, February 07, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary to be prayed in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Christian mass will be held on Monday, February 08, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Military services will be under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #8788 of McAllen. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
