Jose G. Garza, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, April 10, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. There he had been living under the care of his daughter Marina Small for the past three and a half years. Mr. Garza was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1926 in La Reforma, Texas and had lived in Edinburg most of his life. He is preceded in death by his wife; Aurora, parents; Jose and Barbarita Garza, brother; Jorge and sisters; Hilda Garza and Minerva G. Reyna.
He is survived by his daughters; Irene Garza of Edinburg and Marina (Richard) Small of San Antonio, sons; David G. Garza of San Antonio and Jose Ricardo Garza of Ft. Worth, grandchildren; Laura Garza of San Antonio, Homer Garza, Jr. of Edinburg, Daniel (Nancy) Garza of Edinburg, Mario Carlos Guerra of San Antonio, Mikala and Brooklyn Garza of Ft. Worth, great grandchildren; Andrew Delattre of San Antonio, Joby and Diamond Garza of Edinburg, brother; Isaac (Lupita) Garza of McAllen, sister; Sylvia (Fred) Guerra of Edinburg.
In 1944, Mr. Garza joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served until June of 1946. He served on the USS Tryon hospital ship where he was part of the Amphibious Force. Their job was to land the Marines on the beaches of Okinawa and then retrieve the wounded and dead under hostile conditions. Mr. Garza's assignment was in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
Upon his return to his hometown of Edinburg, he married his sweetheart Aurora Cavazos on October of 1950. Mr. Garza's employment for the next 40 years would serve as Parts Manager of a number of dealerships including his first employment at Robert's Chevrolet and ending his career at Aleman Volkswagen in McAllen.

A special thanks to his Hospice nurse MJ Price, RN and his caregiver Francisca Maddela. We also wish to thank his physicians, Drs. Steven and Jennifer Argumedo who extended a genuine personal care for our father Jose G. Garza.
Mr. Garza's family will be receiving family and friends on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 West Fay Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial with Military honors under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson Road in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Homer Garza, Jr., Daniel Garza, Andrew Delattre, Nathaniel Barbosa, Isaac Garza, Jr. and Juan Garza. Funeral services have been entrusted to Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
